God’s gift arrived in the Wellington Archdiocese when Sister Jean-Marie McErlane decided she would give her considerable talents as teacher to establish and lead some of the Brigidine schools.
Miriama was involved in setting up Te Kohanga Reo in Kaikoura, and in the construction of Takahanga Marae, and she established Te Tai o Marokura Health and Social Service and Ariama Cultural Retreat Centre.
A series of informational talks on Sydney, games, as well as sharing’both food and faith’made it a great preparatory event for the journey to World Youth Day in July.
A chopper on the netball courts ‘ it’s not an everyday event so the Year 7 and 8 students of St Peter’s College, Palmerston North, were in for a treat on Monday May 19.
Last month’s O’Shea Shield won a third equal placing for St Peter’s out of 17 schools with a win for the debating team.
Like many priests in Aotearoa’New Zealand I attended the national gathering in Blenheim in April. I haven’t got that much staying power nowadays so I could attend only parts of it but I made it to the speaker’s address each morning and his discussion group in the afternoon.

The international Caritas relief effort is now targeting more than 60,000 people through local partners with food, temporary shelter, health care and other aid items in four of the most seriously affected areas of Myanmar despite ongoing difficulties with access for international aid teams.
After the Anzac Ploughshares activists had deflated the spydish cover at Waihopai early on the morning of April 30, they erected a small shrine to pray before being arrested. Beside a picture of Jesus at their shrine was a picture of Oscar Romero.
The much-awaited re-launch of connect.org.nz was celebrated last month with the ceremonial first click by Wellington World Youth Day ambassador, Josie Leota, and Fr James Lyons, the parish priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Wellington.
