It’s really important to call on the folks in Taranaki because they have done so much for me in the past two and half years. The Mission Rest Home and the Brothers residence are a crucial part of my healing along with the parish and folk of Stratford and Hawera. It’s with a real sense of importance that I revisit them.

As well as the consideration of the central role of the Eucharist as ‘the source and summit of the Christian life’, we heard that a Eucharist ‘which does not pass over into the concrete practice of love is intrinsically fragmented’.

We listened to part of the pope’s message and were able to come to an understanding of what it means to be going to World Youth Day in Sydney 2008. We shared ideas and learnt about what it means to be a pilgrim. We discovered many amazing people in our lives that we just assumed were ‘average’.

Even before the final rehearsal enthusiastic fans were queuing at Ss Peter and Paul church for the March 14 concert.

Items included the 2008 WYD Song, a medieval weaponry display and more music. We also had a craft stall in the main street selling jewellery, cards and artwork by pilgrims.

The sausages were superb, the cakes simply delicious, the deals were spectacular and the pilgrims were very happy to have their fundraising efforts boosted by $2500.

The Hui Aranga has been meeting every Easter since 1946. This year, the hui attracted some 1500 people to St Patrick’s College, Silverstream where the competition was hot in all ways.
